WUSC in Sudan
As of March 2010, WUSC became active in southern par ts of Sudan with a program focused on increased education and vocational training for the Sudanese population. Similar to work done in Sri Lanka and Afghanistan, the program in Sudan takes into account the country’s current fragile state after decades of civil war and unrest. Lack of infrastructure, internally displaced persons (IDPs) and refugees returning in large numbers will provide challenges for WUSC, but the program hopes to address these issues by increasing teacher training, literacy and education and skills training. Current Programs Right now WUSC is working in the southern parts of Sudan in Upper Nile, Unity and Northern Bahr el-Ghazal. Building a Sustainable Future through Education and Training (BSFET): This project will seek to enhance socio-economic conditions among returning refugees, resettled IDPs and non-displaced populations, as well as increase skills among teachers in Sudan. |
