WUSC in Sudan

This year, WUSC became active in southern parts of Sudan with a program focused on increased education and vocational training for the Sudanese population. Similar to work done in Sri Lanka and Afghanistan, the program in Sudan takes into account the country’s current fragile state after decades of civil war and unrest. Lack of infrastructure, internally displaced persons (IDPs) and refugees returning in large numbers will provide challenges for WUSC, but the program hope to address these issues by increasing teacher training, literacy and education and skills training. 2010 Annual Assembly: Keynote Speaker

Call for Presenters – 2010 National Research Forum

WUSC is looking for new and emerging scholars to present at the 2010 National Research Forum as part of the 64th Annual Assembly in November. Up to five presenters will be chosen to speak to student leaders across Canada on issues related to this year’s assembly theme, Own the MDGs: Canadians Rising to the Challenge. The NRF will focus on the role of NGOs and community-based organizations in the achievement of the MDGs, as well as their changing role in supporting sustainable development in the South. To apply, please submit a one-page summary of the presentation, highlighting the purpose and intent to Tom Tunney ttunney@wusc.ca by July 30, 2010. Preference will be given to individuals currently enrolled in a PhD program, who have recently completed a PhD, or who are new faculty members at a university or college.  Preference will also be given to presentations focused on countries where WUSC is present.


 

Lewis Perinbam Award - Call for Nominees

The Board of Trustees of the Lewis Perinbam Award in International Development and the World University Service of Canada (WUSC) are pleased to announce the 2010 competition for the Award. Nominations will be accepted until Friday, September 17, 2010. The winner will be announced at the beginning of November and presented at the WUSC Annual Assembly in Ottawa on November 5, 2010.
